Zero-tolerance safety policy
The safety and trust of our community come before everything else. We operate a strict, zero-tolerance approach to abuse, exploitation, dishonesty, and the misuse of religious teaching. Any teacher or student may be suspended or permanently removed from the platform at any time, without notice and without warning, where we reasonably believe these Terms have been breached or that removal is necessary to protect any person. Our decisions on safety are final.
1.Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to register as a teacher, and at least 18 to create your own student account.
- A student under 18 may only use the platform under the supervision, consent, and account management of a parent or legal guardian, who accepts these Terms on their behalf and remains responsible for their use.
- You must provide accurate, current, and complete information and keep it up to date. Impersonating another person, misrepresenting your qualifications, or creating an account on someone else's behalf without authority is prohibited.
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Accounts are personal and may not be shared, sold, or transferred.
2.Teachers and students
The platform serves two roles, each with distinct obligations:
- Teachers publish their profile, set their own terms and fees, accept or decline students, deliver lessons, upload teaching materials, and manage their classrooms. Teachers act as independent educators and are solely responsible for the lawfulness, accuracy, and quality of what they teach.
- Students register to a teacher using that teacher's unique Teacher ID, review and accept the teacher's stated terms and fees before joining, attend lessons, and complete assigned work.
- Madrassa is a platform that connects teachers and students. We are not a party to the educational relationship between a teacher and a student, we do not employ teachers, and we do not supervise, endorse, or guarantee any teacher, student, or lesson.
3.Teacher subscription
- To offer and deliver lessons on the platform, teachers must maintain an active subscription of £19.99 (British pounds) per month. This subscription applies to teachers only.
- The subscription is billed monthly in advance and grants access to teaching tools, classrooms, student management, and materials hosting for the billing period. It is recurring and renews automatically until cancelled.
- Teachers may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period. Except where required by law, subscription fees already paid are non-refundable, including where an account is suspended or removed for breach of these Terms.
- We may change the subscription price on reasonable prior notice. If you do not accept a price change, you may cancel before it takes effect.
- If a teacher's subscription lapses, their ability to deliver lessons and accept new students may be paused until payment is restored.
Subscription billing is not yet enabled on this platform. This section states the terms that will apply once payments go live; continued use after that point constitutes acceptance.
4.Student payments to teachers
- Students do not pay a subscription to Madrassa. Access to learn on the platform is free for students.
- However, by registering with a teacher, the student (or their parent/guardian) agrees to pay that teacher the price the teacher has set and that the student accepted at the time of enrolment — whether per lesson or monthly, in the stated currency.
- This payment obligation is a direct arrangement between the student and the teacher. Madrassa is not responsible for collecting, holding, processing, or refunding student-to-teacher payments, and is not liable for any dispute about them.
- Teachers must state their fees clearly and honestly and must not demand payments beyond what the student accepted. Students must honour the fees they agreed to for lessons received.
- Payment disputes should first be resolved directly between the teacher and student. Repeated non-payment by a student, or dishonest or exploitative fee practices by a teacher, are breaches of these Terms and may lead to removal.
5.Strict restrictions on lessons taught
Teaching on Madrassa is a position of trust. All lessons, materials, and guidance must be delivered responsibly. The following restrictions are strict and apply to every teacher and to all content shared on the platform. It is prohibited to teach, promote, share, or encourage any of the following:
- Any content that is unlawful, or that promotes hatred, violence, extremism, terrorism, or the harm of any individual or group on any basis.
- Any interpretation or claim presented deceptively, or teaching outside a teacher's genuine knowledge and competence. Teachers must not misrepresent their qualifications or authority to teach.
- Content that incites intolerance toward, or the mistreatment of, people of any faith, background, gender, or community.
- Sexual content, grooming, or any inappropriate conduct toward a student; and any content that is not suitable for the age of the student being taught.
- Political recruitment, fundraising, coercion, financial schemes, or the solicitation of money or favours outside the agreed lesson fees.
- Sharing personal contact details to move students off-platform in order to evade these Terms, safeguarding, or the subscription.
- Material that infringes the copyright or other rights of any third party, or content you do not have the right to share.
Teachers are fully responsible for their lessons and materials. We may review, restrict, or remove any content and may act against any account without warning where these restrictions are breached.
6.Conduct expected of everyone
- Treat every member of the community with respect, honesty, and dignity at all times, in lessons, messages, and materials.
- Do not harass, bully, threaten, defame, or intimidate any person, and do not use abusive, obscene, or discriminatory language.
- Do not record, screenshot, or redistribute a lesson or another person's image, voice, or personal information without their clear consent.
- Do not attempt to disrupt, hack, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the platform or other accounts.
- Do not use the platform to send spam, scams, malware, or to collect data about others for any purpose not permitted by these Terms.
7.Safeguarding and reporting
- Protecting children and vulnerable people is a shared responsibility. Any suspected abuse, exploitation, grooming, or risk of harm must be reported immediately to info@ilmmadrassa.com.
- We will act on credible safety reports, which may include immediate suspension or permanent removal of an account without warning, preserving relevant records, and reporting to the police or relevant authorities where appropriate.
- If anyone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
8.Your content and materials
- You retain ownership of the books, notes, and other materials you upload. You grant Madrassa a limited, non-exclusive licence to host and display that content solely to operate the platform and deliver it to your intended students.
- You confirm you own or have the rights to everything you upload and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights or break the law.
- We may remove content that breaches these Terms, and we may retain records as needed for legal, safety, and audit purposes.
9.Suspension and removal without warning
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion and without prior notice or warning, to restrict, suspend, or permanently remove any teacher or student, and to delete related content, where we reasonably believe that:
- these Terms, our restrictions, or the law have been breached;
- a person's safety, wellbeing, or rights are at risk;
- an account is being used dishonestly, abusively, or to exploit others; or
- removal is necessary to protect the integrity and trust of the platform.
Removal may occur regardless of subscription status, and fees already paid are not refunded where removal results from a breach. You may contact us to appeal, but our decisions on safety are final. You may also stop using the platform and close your account at any time.
10.Disclaimers and limitation of liability
- The platform is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any teacher, lesson, or outcome will meet your expectations.
- We are not responsible for the conduct of any teacher or student, the accuracy of any teaching, or any payment arrangement between them.
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, Madrassa is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the platform. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
- You agree to indemnify Madrassa against claims arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the platform.
11.Changes, governing law, and contact
- We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the platform, and your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
- These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, unless mandatory local law provides otherwise.
- If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
- Questions about these Terms can be sent to info@ilmmadrassa.com.
